Levach
Levac is an area in central Serbia. The relief is hilly and mountainous, rich in forests with beautiful landscapes and various mostly harmless wild animals. This makes Levac ideal for hiking.
If you like hiking...
There are only 3 species of animals to avoid:
- Hornets (between mid-August and October ),
- snakes (between spring and autumn) and
- wolves (only during the winter with a lot of snow)
Wolves
Wolves are very rare and appear only in winter. Even then, they mostly runs away from people and no wolf attack on humans has ever been recorded in these parts.
Hornets
Hornets are quite common during late summer and early autumn (August-September), however, if you do not disturb them, they will not attack you. They are quite peaceful. They can land on your arm, and if you stay calm, they will walk on your arm for a while and fly away. They usually become aggressive when their nest is endangered.
Snakes
Snakes are quite common from spring to autumn. Fortunately, most snakes are non-venomous. However, there are two types of venomous snakes that are deadly: the horned viper and the adder. (Vipera ammodytes & Vipera berus).
Both species are not aggressive and will ignore your presence. However, trouble most often occurs if you accidentally step on them. They are very well camouflaged in the environment, so it is difficult to notice them until they make move.
If you have adequate hiking boots, you are quite safe.
All three species of animals are protected by law in Serbia and you must not kill or injure them.
There are 32 settlements in Levč that are relatively close to each other. This makes hiking extra safe because there is no chance of getting lost. Wherever you go after no more than an hour's walk, you will see a village where you can take a break, get food and water (free of charge) and instructions on where you are on the map and / or advice on which way to go. You will also be able to recharge the battery of your mobile device in any home,
There is one rule. The more rural the village, the better and more hospitable people are. In rural villages, if you knock on anyone's door, you will be probably get welcomed, offered food and brandy, you will even be able to sleep the night at home of your host, all for free.
Tourism
Levca's economy is not based on tourism. It is mostly an agricultural area. For now, you will not find hotels or tourist organizations there. However, there are a few households engaged in rural tourism as a secondary activity.
